DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF PROGRESSIVE RETINA ATROPHY AN GLAUCOMA WITH OPTICAL OHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

Introduction
The PRA is a genetic disorder. It is causes the degeneration and death of the cone and rod cells of
the retina. Glaucoma is a neuro-degenerative disease. The glaucoma cause the degeneration and death of the cells in the ganglion cell complex. In veterinary practice the methods currently used for retinal examination do not make it possible to detect  ne changes, and give only informative results which could be proved only by pathologic methods, while do not support the detection of glaucoma or PRA; the early signs appear in the retina.
Objectives
Our goal is to introduce the importance of the OCT in the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of glaucoma and PRA.
Methods
The principle of operation of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is very similar to the ultrasound with one major difference, that in case of the OCT the physical wave originates from a special light source.
Results
In our study we examined 152 dogs between the age of 3 weeks to 15 years old. We took OCT pictures at different stages of PRA.
Conclusions
With OCT we are able to detect early lesions. Thanks to the early diagnosis, it is possible to begin the therapy in time so fewer retinal cells get damaged and/or die.

EXAMINATION OF RETINAL DETACHMENT WITH OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

Introduction
The retina has 10 layers. In case of retina detachment the inner 9 layers are separated from the pigment epithelium. It can be caused for example trauma, in ammation, glaucoma. There is a new tool in opthalmic diagnostic the optical coherence tomography. With these device we are able to examine all of the layer of the retina almost in histological level.
Objectives
Our goal to show the importance of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the diagnostic of retinal detachment.
Methods
In our study we used fourier domain OCT. The examination was performed in anasthesia. We examined 12 dogs. The age of dogs was between the age of 1 yeras and 15 years old. Before OCT examination we photographed the retina with fundus camera in all cases.
Results
In some cases in the fundus camera pictures we can
not see the retinal detachment although the detachment and  uid between the layers of the retina was easily visible with OCT. With the help of OCT we can detect  ne changes. We can accurately determine the size of the detachment.
Conclusions
With OCT we can make much more detailed examimnation. So  ne lesions can be detected which are not visible with fundus camera or opthalmoscope. We can record all of the examination so we can follow the progression of the disease.
